MultiCare Acquisition - Patient FAQ

For clients of Quilted Health Spokane

by Quilted Health Team
We recognize that this announcement may raise questions so we have published an FAQ to help you navigate this change.

Where will I be giving birth?

Over the coming months we will be focused on ensuring a smooth transition for our clients and our staff as we shift to delivering care at Deaconess Hospital in early 2025 (exact date TBD). We will continue to keep you informed of any changes to your delivery hospital during regular appointments and via email.

What is labor and delivery like at MultiCare Deaconess?

MultiCare Deaconess Labor and Delivery is midwife-friendly and adheres to evidence-based standards. To support physiologic birth, they give the option of BirthWise rooms, which are geared toward clients wanting a minimally interventive birth center experience. The BirthWise rooms support intermittent fetal monitoring, minimal cervical exams, and support for client birth plans. For clients who need a cesarean section (C-section), they have clear drapes and promote skin to skin immediately after birth. Our midwives will be able to provide assistance during the C-section. The hospital is also supportive of vaginal birth after a C-section (VBAC). We will still have 24/7 physician back-up and access to the NICU as needed.

Will we stay in our current clinic location?

Yes! We will stay in our current clinic location for prenatal, postpartum, and gynecologic care. We will also continue to welcome providers from the community (massage therapists, childbirth educators, lactation counselors, etc).

What if my insurance doesn't cover birth at Deaconess/MultiCare?

Most insurance plans that we currently accept are also accepted by MultiCare, and a majority of our clients will not be impacted.

Currently, MultiCare is out-of-network with a Providence Employee Plan (administered via Premera), some TriCare plans, and Wellpoint. If you are covered by these insurances, we will reach out to you directly to discuss your options. If you would like to remain with Quilted Health for your labor and delivery, we will work to obtain an in-network exception from your insurance company to cover your care. For any client whose delivery location may change, we will re-confirm all eligibility and benefits to ensure there are no surprises or gaps in coverage.
