Lisa has been interested in the childbearing journey from a young age. Stories of her mom’s empowering births, in spite of a structure that was highly interventive, were early seeds planted. These seeds found just the right circumstances later in life to grow into a deep belief in bodily autonomy and trust in the body’s ability to grow and birth a child. Lisa's beliefs set into motion a life-long desire to learn about the history of maternal health practices. She also felt a deep desire to make improvements in the system as a whole while continuing to providing respectful care. She enjoys incorporating her prior experience with complementary and alternative modalities into the midwifery care she provides. In the past, she’s been a Licensed Massage Therapist, birth and postpartum Doula, and Yoga Instructor. She believes that pregnancy and birth have the power to transform parents, families, and the larger community.

Lisa earned her bachelor’s degree from Washington State University's College of Nursing and her doctorate in nursing practice in Nurse Midwifery from the University of Washington. She is accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. 

Lisa has lived in and served the Spokane community as a Certified Nurse Midwife at Sacred Heart Medical Center for 8 years. She enjoys providing clients with the education they need to empower them to make decisions that align with their goals. It’s been her privilege to walk alongside families at some of their most joyful and also most painful moments in life. She’s honored to be trusted with this role. 

Her practice inquiry and quality review work have been unique highlights in her career. During graduate school she was involved in developing a program called “Free to Succeed,” which expanded pre-release contraception access to offenders leaving the women’s prison system in Washington State. More recently, she was a member of Washington State’s first multidisciplinary Maternal Mortality Review Board for three years with the Department of Health. This board evaluates maternal deaths throughout the state to determine root causes and work on creating recommendations for preventative strategies. Locally, she serves on the hospital’s Obstetric Quality Review Committee and is the first midwife to be included in this important work. She is honored to lead this team of midwives in growing access to midwifery care in the community.
