Jane pursued midwifery after working as a nurses' assistant while studying in the UK. At the time, she was working at the social health care system (the NHS) with pregnant and new mothers in a psychiatric hospital. This spurned a great domino effect of interest in birth work. Jane gained experience as a doula working with refugee families and homeless youth while she worked through nursing school. She found mothers and birthing parents in need of one-on-one support everywhere she looked.

As a new RN, Jane moved back to her hometown of Spokane to follow love. She worked in the Emergency Department at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center—the hospital where she was born, as the department’s first new grad RN. This trauma nursing background was a diversion from her path to midwifery but has shaped who she is a provider forever: Jane is a calm in a storm. During this time she went back to graduate school, and completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Midwifery. Upon graduation, she joined an out-of-hospital midwifery practice with a Licensed Midwife, and together they shared a practice at a free-standing birth center and offering home-birth midwifery care. She later joined a hospital midwifery practice with her current colleagues and was back again at Sacred Heart caring for her community with a supportive team of midwives and obstetricians. This team is now together at Quilted Health and is working to expand this incredible model of comprehensive midwifery care to the greater Spokane community.

Jane is the kind of midwife who strives to personalize your birth experience. She believes your birth is a careful, crucial, intense (though comparatively brief!) time in your life where the atmosphere and support around you can shape the kind of parent you become. This is what shapes our next generation and, in turn, our world. Jane knows each birthing person and birth story deserves sincere respect, unfaltering support, and expert medical care.
